Property Description

If you dream of enjoying that G&T in an architect-designed home with four generous bedrooms and pinch-me views across the River Dart, then we've got just the listing for you. The wrap around balcony even has a jacuzzi. Presiding over idyllic Kingswear, Tower House re-writes the book on outdoor space.

There's a beautiful tiered front garden, complete with summerhouse straight out of a Virginia Woolf novel (a summerhouse that has quite possibly the worlds' most envy-inducing view). This is topped with an extensive decked front terrace that makes the most of those amazing views with a BBQ area and aforementioned jacuzzi. There's a garage and rear garden too, which will appeal to anyone with small (or large) kids who like to throw a rugby ball around.

We should mention the house itself. Three floors of contemporary, tasteful living with underfloor heating on the ground floor and throughout the bathrooms. There's also an interconnected speaker system throughout which will prove doubtlessly popular with any visiting teenagers. There's a large, light drawing room that makes the most of those views across the harbour, as does the day room on the ground floor. Indeed, the whole house benefits from excellent light with plenty of windows and skylights throughout. The office might just have the most inspirational view a home office could possibly have (spoiler alert: you can see the water) and the living room is beyond cosy with a contemporary wood burner to keep things toasty during the winter months.

Even though it's perched on the glorious Devon coast, Kingswear is just half an hours' drive from Totnes which boasts a nippy direct London train that'll get you into Paddington in just under three hours (not bad when you consider it covers 200 miles). Your local pub is the immensely popular (and dog-friendly) Steam Packet Inn where you'll find brilliant pizzas and a buzzy atmosphere most weekend nights. The nearby Ship Inn is also well-thought of and does an excellent pint. During the day, get yourself up to Greenway, the National Trust-owned former residence of novelist Agatha Christie, a magnificent historical day out reachable via river cruise. The shopping across the water in Dartmouth is excellent (easily accessed via frequent passenger and car ferry) but if the weather's good and only a beach day will do, then gorgeous Blackpool Sands is a short drive (or an energetic kayak trip) away. Naturally, there's plenty to keep keen sailors happy with moorings available 3 minutes' walkaway in Darthaven Marina. We also recommend keeping the last weekend in August free for the world-famous Dartmouth Regatta Week.

Easily reached by car or rail (there is the unique option of arriving by steam train from Paignton should the mood strike you), Kingswear boasts all the usual amenities, school, well-stocked village shop, coffee shop, as well as some less common ones like the Royal Dart Yacht Club, an original steam train platform with operational steam train, passenger and car ferry to Dartmouth and full access to one of Devons' most illustrious marinas.
